God is spirit, said Jesus (John 4:24). He dwells in unapproachable light, added the apostle, “whom no one has ever seen or can see” (1 Timothy 6:16). Yet there are remarkable stories in the Bible where people actually did “see” God, or at least caught a glimpse of something about him. The stories of these visions of God are some of the most awesome and mysterious in scripture, and reveal important things about his character and nature. Our first summer sermon series looks at six of them: three from the Old Testament focused on God as he is in himself, and three from the New Testament focused on God as he is in himself, and three from the New Testament focused on God as he is revealed in Jesus.
