Building a Welcoming Presence
Building a Welcoming Presence
The gospel accounts of Jesus’ life highlight his concern for the last, the least, and the lost. He pursued people considered by society to be outcasts, and he demonstrated special care for those marginalized by society. Jesus welcomed all manner of people into his presence and in so doing demonstrated that hospitality is the frontline of mission.
Our Sunday Seminar through the month of March will focus on Building a Welcoming Presence both as a church and in our lives in the world. We are pleased to welcome several Reformed Church in America (RCA) denominational staff, who will help facilitate the conversation. This seminar will invite us to consider questions like:
How are we doing in welcoming all manner of people into our lives?
Where might we grow in this area as individuals? As a congregation?
For whom might attending a service at Fifth be hard because of underlying social realities? And why is that?
Overall, we hope to grow in our awareness of the experience of others with an eye toward fine-tuning our interactions toward others to be able to welcome them more like Jesus would. The seminar will meet in Community Room 2 from 11:20 am to 12:05 PM every Sunday in March.
